Road trip / På vej til Michigan

After a few days in NYC it was time to head for the Great Lake State.  We loaded our two rental cars with luggage, divided and conquered.  I drove the American group, and Finn headed the group of Danes. We spent the next 12 hours on the road, and at various American fast food locations - it was fantastic! We bought Fritos, Cheetos, stopped at fine establishments like McDonalds and Subway, and purchased cinammon chewing gum.  Yummy!

Muuums!!

Summer 2012

Summer Vacation Destinations 2012: New York City, MI, Canada

8 travelers, 4 airports, 4 countries, 16 suitcases, 8 carry-ons, 2 rental cars, and 8 different opinions of the "ideal" vacation.  That said,  we had an amazing trip!  After a little bit of a rocky start in England, with a delay at the airport and a minor espisode where the validity of Philip and Simone's tickets were questioned we were on our way! Without telling the group Finn and I had decided to book a limo to pick us up at JFK.  :) What a treat!  The expressions on their faces when the Limo arrived were really priceless.  I think that it actually made up for the delay at Heathrow.

Just like every summer vacation when we head to the US, there is a tight schedule to maintain, but we really tried to squeek the most out of every hour.  We rode the subway, took a day tour with a guide to many of NYC's hot spots. Empire State, Statue of Liberty, Wall Street and saw construction underway on the new Freedom tower. It was really fantastic.  Our fearless, tireless "leader" and my partner, actually managed to get quite sick for almost two full days while we were there. Poor guy!  Fortunately, the staff at our hotel was fantastic and they pointed out the places we need to go to get him on the mend again.  One of the most ironic things was meeting people at breakfast who were from Denmark.  Proof again that it is a small world we live in.  We all enjoyed the trip and would love to go back - a long weekend simply isn't long enough for New York City!

Construction Zone

What naively started out as a necessary replacement of our wooden floor in the living room due to water damage grew into a monster of a project that took up the better part of our autumn.  Sometimes I really believe that it is better that we didn't know in advance how much work it would really take for us to do all that we set out to.  We might have had second thoughts, maybe even third!

Fortunately we walked directly into the fire and came out with a home that is much more suited to our lifestyle, and fits our personalities.  We still have a few finishing touches in the way of paintings, and textiles but for the most part...we are happy!
