Windows, Floors, Doors and more / Vinduer, Gulvene Døre og mere, Las Ventanas, Los Pisos, Las Puertas o mas

When you look at that picture as a native "Michigander" you might see a quaint and cosy looking set of three windows.  What you might not pick up on is the fact that they do not have screens!  Actually, for that matter neither do the doors to our home, and I can tell you that during warm weather they are all definitely open! Which allows for the occasional visit, of a few native creatures to make their way in and out again without a problem!  Small little creatures, like: mosquitos, flies and the even the occasional bee!

Når du kik på denne billede som en nativ "Michigander" (Menneske fra Michigan) du vil mest fokus på vor hyggligt og charmerende det tre vinduer ser ud. Måske du vil ikke bemærke et det har ingen skærme på! Faktisk, heller ikke vores døre hos hjem, og jeg kan fortælle et når vejre er varmt de er alle fulstændig åben! Det giver mulighed for den lelighedsvis fra nogle nativ dyr til kom ind og ud igen uden problemer!  Små dyr som mygge, fluer og også i engang i mellem bier!

 

                                           

Cuando miras la foto como un nativo "Michigander", usted podría solo ver un bonito conjunto de tres ventanas. Quien sabes si puedes recoger en ese foto es que no tienen pantallas! En realidad, ni tampoco tienen las puertas de nuestra casa, y puedo decirles que durante el tiempo caliente - todos ellos son abiertos! Lo que pase es que ventanas og puertas sin pantallas permiten la visitas, de unas cuantas criaturas nativas que entren og salen sin  problema! Pequeñas criaturas, como: mosquitos, moscas y hasta los abejas vienen a visitar nos!

In Michigan we are accustomed to walking on carpets, in offices, schools and in our homes.

I Michigan vi er vent til at går på tæppe i kontor, skole og i vores hjem.

I Michigan somos acostombrados det caminar sobre del alformbras en oficinas, escuelas o tambien en nuestras casas.

However, our experience has proven that carpets in our area are few, and far between.  Most places we have visited, actually I can't really recall if I have seen carpet in any home since we have been here. We primarily see wooden and tile floors every place we visit. 

Men, vores erfaring har vist sig et tæppe i vores by er faktisk få.  Mest steder vi har besogt, faktisk jeg kan ikke huske om vi har set tæppe i nogen hjem siden vi har blevet her.  Vi primært se tæ og flise gulv ver sted vi besøge.

Another thing that we find amusing - electrical outlets.  Not because they have different wattage, or that many of our American electronics do not work here, or when they do frequently blow fuses in our converters.  Naw, that would be rational thinking. We just think that they look happy! They actually look like they are smiling at us.

Noget anden vi sygnes det er sjovt - el stikkontacter.  Ikke fordi det har forskelig strom, ellers fordi vores Amerikansk el ting virke ikke her, heller ikke fordi når de gør de arbejde, de slag sikringerne. Nej, de vil være logisk tænksomhed.  Det er kunne fordi vi tror de ser glad ud!  De faktisk ser ud som de smiler på os!

Otro cosa que encotramos divertido son los enchufes electricos.  No porque potencia er diferente, o que muchos de nuestros cosas electronicos det los Estados Unidos, no trabajen, og cuando si trabajen por un rato primero det parar det trabajar.  No, porque pensando asi tiene sentido.  Solò es porque se miran felices! Parecen que se nos sonrìan!

Heating - Opvarmning

This is the system that we were used to for heating our home in Michigan.  A furnace that is generally located in the basement of the home, normally in a basement, tucked away behind Christmas decorations, and all of the other things we couldn't find a place for anywhere else in our homes.  The furnace then blows warm air, by way of vents, that travel throughout the home.  Nothing beats standing in front of one of those vents in the winter as the "on" cycle runs!  Nice, warm air. The downside, other than the bill, is in Michigan winters are so cold that these cycles run pretty often, creating really dry air and the subsquent need for humidifiers.

Det her er den opvarmings system vi var vent til brug i Michigan. Mens opvarmning system i almindelighed ligger i kælderen, til bage af jul dekorationer, og alle andre ting vi kunne ikke finde plads for i vores hus.  Dette opvarming system blæse varmt luft, via ventiler, som kører rund huset.  Ingenting er bedre om vinteren den det mulighed at stå i fremt af ventil når den blæse! Dejlige ,varm luft! Det bagside, anden det regning, er et Michigan vintere er så koldt at det opvarmer arbjede tit, og det laver virkelig tør luft, og det følgende behøv for humidifiers. (Det er maskiner som set fugtighed tilbage i luften)

In our home here in Denmark we have two forms of heating.  By way of radiators and in floor heating.

I vores huset her i Danmark, vi har to slags af opvarmnings systemer.  De er radiatorer og gulvvarme systemer.

Both systems work in conjuction with a "district-heating system" that is best explained by Wikipedia here. They keep our home really warm and cosy, especially after a winter like the one we have had this year! (Although, I do miss the vents sometimes.) With the added benefit that Bailey hasn't had a single nosebleed since we have moved.  

Begge systemer arbejde sammen med den fjernvarm system, det er bedste forklaret fra Wikipedia her. De virker fint og vores hjem er varm og hyggeligt, speciallet en vinter som vi har prøvet i år!  (Men nogen gang jeg savner de ventiler)  Men vi har den ekstra plus fordi Bailey ikke har fået næseblod en enesete gang, siden vi har flyttet.

As some extra fun, in Michigan we even have companies whose sole job is to clean out furnace vents.  Here are some examples of what they find.

Danish homes - Danske huse

Not quite sure if this is what Oprah was thinking when she visited CPH, but this is probably a sound example of the types of homes we see in our area.  Brick exterior, with shiny shingles, and lots of windows. It is not standard for homes to be built with garages, but that trend might be changing.

Jeg er usikker om hvad Oprah Winfrey var tænke på det eksempel af en rigtig dansk hus når hun besogte Kobenhavn, men det her er et god eksempel af huse vi se i vores byen.  Mursten ydre, med skinnende tækkespån og mange vinduer.  Det er ikke standard et mand skal bygge hjeme med garage, men måske denne retning skal skiftes i den næste års tidpunkt.

We have also had the pleasure of seeing homes with thatched roofs. They look really cosy, and we would love to have the opportunity to visit one.

Vi har også haft den god fornøjelse til se flere stråtækte huse. De ser hyggeligt ud, og nogen gang har vi lyst til besogte en.

Our town shows no signs for stopping...ok, maybe a few. Vores byen vis ingen skilte til at stoppe - ok, men måske få.

A little over a week ago, Max and I were driving alone in the car and talking about all of the things that we used to find unusual about Denmark's architecture, daily life, and food, when we realized how normal they all were to us now.  I think the conversation suprised us both.  At that moment we decided that we need to add these into our Denmark Blog before we forget that they used to be novel.

Lidt over en uge siden, Max og jeg kørte alene i bilen, og snakkede om alt vi har troede var anderledes om Danmarks arkitektur, daglig liv, og mad, når vi bemærkede vor almindelig det alle er nu. jeg synes det var en overraskelse til os begge to. På denne tidpunkt har vi besluttet at vi skulle set det eksempel ind i vores Danmark Blog før vi glemmer at det var forskellige lige after vores flytte.

Today's topic : Stop signs 
Idags Emne : Stop Skiltes

Fact is although they do have stop signs here, we don't see much of them in our daily commute to and from school.  What do we see then?  The equivalent of a "Yield" sign.  We see them at the ends of streets, and in front of round-about's.

Men Fakta er et når de virkelig har stop vej skilte, vi se dem ikke så tit i vores hver dag pendle til og frem skole. Så hvad er det et vi se? Det skilte som behøve mand skal holde tilbage.  Vi se dem på vejens ende, og før mand køre ind til rundkørsel. 

Many examples of Danish road signs can be found here, but funny enough I haven't found the sign we see most.  I will actually have to go out and take a picture and paste it in!
