A bit about school

While these pictures are a little out of sequence, I thought that they give a good peek into the environment at school for the kids.  In the first series of pics you see the Principal, Peter Astrop playing the guitar and leading the assembly.  The following pics are at the assmbly and during a class play for Max.  The man in Max's class with guitar in hand, is a retired teacher who is covering for Sanne.  He was great, and also happens to be Bailey's last teachers husband!

112 Emergency - a day at the Fire Station

We are lucky enough to have a fire station within 5 minutes from our home, but what is even better than that is that we have the bonus of knowing our own firefighter! Finn's nephew Thomas,  is a full time firefighter and mentioned that we might want to check out the station during their annual open house. Were we ever glad that he did! They demonstrated life saving techniques and gave away free balloons...what more can you ask for on an overcast and cold fall day?

 

At the races

Late in September Finn called me to ask my opinion about a potential "boy-only" outing... it involved cars traveling at high speeds, and junk food...but the catch was that we only had four tickets to share within a family of 8.  His concern  was that the girls of the family would feel slighted if the boys headed out without us, however after talking with the girls...we lined up an alternate plan that included shopping on Sunday, with the promise of the next special event going the girls' way, and the luxury of sleeping in! :)

After covering the bases and arranging an impromptu early morning collection of Philip, the boys were off to the Danish racing finals.  Finn was lucky enough to get four tickets to the races, with special behind-the-scenes priveledges to meet the drivers and check out the cars. They were even there to see an American Chevy win one of the races!  Yeah Chevy!  They came home tired and hungry, but their eyes still glow when they talk about it! 

Decorating for Halloween ... take one

It might have been the last weekend in September, but the air was crisp and the kids...well they are pumped up for Halloween!  So they began decorating already! They ran around the house looking for "cool stuff" that they could use to create a spooky theme.  I was pretty impressed with the graves they made from the sand box..that is until we have to move all of the sand back...lol.

Anne, our next door neighbor, hung around trying to figure out exactly what the kids were doing, but never appeared phased at all.  She was content just checking out the action!  We have since bought spiders, and webs, because they hope to expand the display before Halloween.  Of course, pumkins and carving will have to be included too.  We were all pretty suprised to see that the stores have a larger supply of decorations this year, and we have even been seeing some advertisements with a Halloween theme!

Sophie loses another one...

As her Uncle Brad pointed out yesterday via Skype, Sophie is ready for Halloween!  ;) She lost tooth number two a week after the first and is sporting a fine jack-o-lantern grin!

She was amazed that she recieved american money for the first tooth, and for the second she recieved euro's! We explained that sometimes the tooth fairy is sooo busy that she just doesn't have time to exchange currency at the border! :)  Especially when the tooth, is lost unexpectedly and the tooth fairy has to change her route. We had nothing to offer when she asked what the tooth fairy does with all of the teeth...any ideas??
